Back in 2003 in all the hysteria and screeching that "Bush lied" and "We didn't find any WMD" after the US attacked and occupied Iraq and deposed Saddam Hussein, I said then that Hussein had smuggled his WMD out into Syria ahead of advancing U.S. forces. And I said these WMD wouldn't be seen again for about 10 years until the world had long dismissed their existence and forgot about them.
And nobody on the left wanted to hear anything about my opinion on the subject. They wanted to stay mired in the hatred for Bush and anything - real or contrived - that supported their hatred was all they were interested in listening to. And they scoffed at anything else.
Their opinion was bolstered by the fact that Syria - in the aftermath of the 2003 invasion of Iraq - denied that it had any WMD. (No, they wouldn't lie. Nah.)
Fast forward to July, 2012. Syria admitted it has WMD.* And here we are in 2013 - 10 years after the invasion of Iraq didn't turn up any WMD - and we're in the days after Syria's Assad used WMD against his opponents near Damascus.** And lo and damned behold if now the analysis doesn't show that Syria's WMDs strongly resemble those Hussein was supposed to be developing or had on hand.***
I hate to say "I told ya so," but.... Well, I did. I wish I'd been wrong.
